The birth of Phung Hung mural street
The “fresco street” project officially opened in November 2018. After more than 3 months of construction, the project was completed before the extremely positive reception of everyone. 19 paintings on the arch of the railway bridge on Phung Hung Street are created from the drawings of artists from Vietnam and Korea. Previously, the project was “covered”. The reason is that a number of works by Vietnamese artists were not accepted by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and requested to be edited or replaced.

19 paintings that recreate the past lives of an old Hanoi. Here, visitors can see the General Department, the women carrying flowers, the jingling trains, the New Year’s gifts… the things that are far back in the past. The murals are painted with PU paint and Golden acrylics, with a lifespan of 5 to 10 years. Before painting, the painting materials will be treated with a waterproof layer behind.
The works have successfully conveyed the message of Hanoi Capital. The thousand-year-old Hanoi of civilization is facing great changes, but it still preserves the traditions and cultural quintessence to leave a mark in the hearts of the Vietnamese people and international friends.
Phung Hung mural street – a place for cultural exchange
With a street length of just over 200m, Phung Hung mural street is said to be a place for cultural exchange , connected to the space of Dong Xuan market, Hang Ma street, Hang Luoc street. It also organizes many entertainment activities, folk games and traditional arts.
Children and their families come here on weekends to play folk games. The old people come to see the paintings, nostalgic about an old time. Young people invite each other to take pictures, save the beautiful moments of youth. There are also tea tables and some traditional confectionery such as banh xeo, peanut candies, etc. for visitors to rest and take pictures.
